PROGRAM NOTE
Solilos is an investigation of inner thoughts. Just as people mull over their own thoughts, the motifs from the piece’s two contrasting themes are exposed and expounded, interwoven and developed—at once stumbling then yearning, trying then failing, wailing then whispering. Yet, the piece forms one narrative arc as contemplation runs its course.


NOTE ON THE TITLE 
Although it is derived from the word “soliloquy,” the title of this piece has no definition besides the music itself. “Solilos” is simply the word that came to mind while I was composing: a new word for a new piece. Besides bearing the connotation of soliloquizing, “solilos” is also a palindrome—a detail which influenced how the music developed throughout the work on both a microscopic and broader level.
